Math History

Shri Nagalingaswamiji was a great Saint, philosopher and a Pawada Purusha (person with yogic power). Swamiji was born in the year 1812 in a village called Javalageri in Sindhanur Taluk of Raichur district, Karnataka. Swamiji took birth with the blessings of Mata Kalika Devi; Swamiji is thought to be the reincarnation of jaganmata. At an early age itself Swamiji got vairagya and focussed his mind to accomplish the highest level of adhyathma. His yearning was fulfilled by Shri NirupadiSwamiji of Talekattu. Swamiji attained commendable position of the Uparathi Yoga. Swamiji visited all over the India and his leelas were evident. Swamiji tried to keep communal harmony in the society. The evidences of his leelas can still be witnessed now. In one of such incident, Swamiji made a big hole of old silver coin size in Bible book, he told that the book would recover as it is with all letters which lost due to hole. As his saying, the complete book is recovering now with same letters. The book recovers just like the wound recovers on the human body. This leela has become great challenge to the field of science. This book is worshipped in the Math daily, every day many devotees visit to witness the same. Many of such leelas are experienced and are occurring in the Math. So Swamiji is entiltled with YATI CHAKRAVARTHI (King of Yatis) and also AJATH (One who conquered the birth and death cycles). Shri Siddharooda Swamiji of Hubli, Madiwala Swamiji of Garag, Shishunal Shariff are the contemporaries of Shri Nagalinga Swamiji and he was revered by them too. Shivanand Swamiji of Gadag, Veerappajjendraswamiji of Nargund, Sharanabasaveshwar of Nagarahalli, Samagar bheemavva of Navalgund were blessed by Swamiji. Finally in the year of 1881, Swamiji attained Samadhi at Navalgund.

Shri Nagalinga Swami Math came into power after the Samadhi of Swamiji. Shri Math is situated at Navalagund Taluk in Dharwad district. The Math is very good conveyance of buses (NH-16, hubli-solapur road) from all parts of the Karnataka. Shri Math has a history of around 200 years. Shri Jaya Chaama Raja Vodeyar of Mysore Empire desired to have a male child. He offered his obeisance to him in the Math further his wish was fulfilled in the form of male child who is known as Shrikanth Dutt Vodeyar of Mysore. As a token of love and gratitude, Maharaja donated 10 acres of land and many other essentials of the Math.

Shri Math encompasses five swamiji’s till date. After Samadhi of Shri Nagalinga Swamiji, Shri Siddayya Swamiji and Shri Veerayya Swamiji became the 2nd and 3rd swamiji respectively. Then fourth swamiji Shri Abhinav NagalingaSwamiji came into the power, Math developed in numerous ways under his guidance. Education remains as mandatory for every child, to fulfil the same, he found an educational institute in the name Shri Jagaduru Ajat Nagalinga Mahaswami Vidyapeeth in the year 1985.This includes High school and ITI institute.This helped poor children of surrounding villages to benefit themselves by gifting good education required for allround development of an individual and further creating many job opportunities for the needy section. His prime aim was to reform Shri Math, this thoughtful decision came into action in the year 1999, with new plan of Tamilnadu vastu with a cost of 80 lakhs. In this way, he played a key role in the development of Shri Math spiritually, educationally, socially. In the year 2006, He attained Samadhi. Fifth and present swamiji Shri Veerendra Swamiji assumed the power of Math in the year 2006; He is postgraduate in M.A Sanskrit from Mysore University, Mysore and further completed his diploma in yogic sciences at well known institute Kaivalyadhama, Lonavala near Pune. At very early age swamiji showed interest to the adhyatma, visited many devine places like Hrishikesh, haridwar, Bhadrinath, kedarnath during his School days itself. He is much influenced by Shri Swami Shivanand and got constant touch with Shri Ramakrishna Ashrama.Under his guidance Math developed in many ways. He taken the great job of rebuilding of Math and did kalasharohan successfully. The Dream of many devotee’s of writing the Book of life history of Shri Nagalingaswamiji came true with publishing the Book with Title ‘AJATA NAGALINGASWAMI’ last year. He implemented many productive programmes like Yoga summer camp, free medical check up, extension of school and college buildings to match the demands.
